On July 7 and 8, 2007, a total of 52 gardeners (and garden enthusiasts) toured a total of four Gardens. The tour was organized by J & T Tours and Terry Pettigrew of the Miramichi Gardeners Club. Twenty persons came from Fredericton and 3 from Saint John. There are three photo galleries for you to enjoy. The photos were taken by Garth Caseley, one of the "enthusiasts" on the Garden Tour 2007. Lucille Caseley is the gardener at our house. To start the slide shows, click on one of the pictures below. Each Gallery has 20 photos. If you would rather see all 60 photos at once (with larger pictures too) here is the link for the Full Gallery. |
The tour began in Fredericton with 23 gardeners on board. The bus traveled to Miramichi where the additional passengers boarded. From there we went to Campbellton, across the Gaspé Peninsula to Mont Joli, then East to Reford Gardens. After a restful night at Rivière du Loup we traveled to Le Jardin de la Petite Ecole, then on to the New Brunswick Botanical Garden in St. Jacques (web site is a work in progress). Following a quick stop at a nursery in St. Jacques where some gardeners picked up some new perennials, we traveled on to Woodstock, Fredericton and home to Miramichi. Here are some panorama photos that are not part of the Photo Galleries: |
The Miramichi Gardeners Club began in 2002. We meet every 2nd Thursday at the Nordin Recreation Centre in Miramichi, New brunswick at 7:00 pm except for January and February. The term of office for our executive is two years, and our next election will be in February 2008. The current executive is as follows: We have 2 plant sales a year in June and September, which are open to the public. For a service project, we help to take care of the gardens at the Miramichi Hospital and this year we had a plant sale at the hospital using extra plants from their gardens. The money from this was used by the Hospital Foundation for their mammography campaign. After each business meeting, we have a speaker in or have a question and answer discussion; or instead of a meeting we may have a day trip excursion. Our members open their gardens during the summer to our club members on Sunday afternoons from 2 - 4 pm and on Thursdays from 7 - 9 pm. Every year or every other year, we host another garden club to garden tours and a pot luck supper. This year, we are having the Chaleur Garden club from Bathurst on Saturday, August 11th. They will tour 4 gardens, visit Brookdales and then come to Terry's home for pot luck supper. For our September meeting, we are having a day trip on Sunday, August 12th to Bouctouche to visit the Irving Arboretum and go to the church service at the little Scottish chapel in the Arboretum. Afterwards, we are going to St. Pauls to visit the day lily gardens of Edwin & Paulette Girouard. (Information on Miramichi Gardeners Club provided by President Terry Pettigrew.) |
